Solo Mining with CGminer
« on: April 29, 2013, 12:22:10 pm »
When you are solo mining, and i right in saying you dont get any accepted shares. This is because the litecoin network doesnt hand out the shares, the pool does.

So, how can i actually tell my rig is doing worthwhile work while going solo. I see the card is operating at around 600mh/s.

Thanks

That's correct, the only 'accepted shares' you will see during solo mining are the blocks found. The whole idea with 'shares' is a mechanism for the pool to determine that you have been working toward finding the block...

Hmm ... do some calcs.

Hash rate: 600 kH/s    Difficulty: 42

Time to Find a Block
Expected Time   3 days 11 hours
Probability of a Block in 1 hour   1.19%
Probability of a Block in 6 hours   6.93%
Probability of a Block in 12 hours   13.38%
Probability of a Block in 24 hours   24.98%

But the blocks are not waiting. Look at  the stats here ... block changes happen within minutes.
This pool does a block in 1min-1hour, average is about 15 mins. Every time the block changes, your "Probability of a Block" is reseted and you start from zero. You have always the chance to find a block with the first few hashes you provide but you have, I think, about 1Gh/s against you from other people around the globe. ;) Thats a 0.0000000001% chance to get the 200 FC. Good luck. ;)
